Alela Diane

Video

The video for Alela Diane’s new single ‘Desire’ has arrived! The song was written by Alela and her husband Tom Bevitori who features in the video (he’s the guy strumming on the rooftop, not the drunkard in the bar). “The song is about a woman I know who shall remain anonymous … It’s not about me,” Alela told Spinner. “We shot the video in the Soho area of London. The close-up shots were filmed on a rooftop three roofs down from where Elton John allegedly wrote ‘Your Song’.” The video was directed by Andy Dunn.

Alela Diane - To Be Still 03/12/08 in Alela Diane

Rough Trade Records is excited to announce the forthcoming release from Alela Diane, “To Be Still” , released on February 17, 2009 via Rough Trade Records in North America and Japan, and on February 16th via Fargo in France, and Names in the UK.

“White As Diamonds” MP3 from “To Be Still”

To Be Still is the follow-up to Alela Diane’s critically-acclaimed 2006 debut The Pirate’s Gospel which brought the Nevada City, CA-reared musician a passionate following across the globe (and massive acclaim in France where she’s recently completed a 26-date tour that took her deep into the countryside). Considering that initial copies of The Pirate’s Gospel were given away to friends in hand-sewn covers just a few years ago, this is not only quite a leap, but a well-deserved one.

Geoff Travis, founder of Rough Trade Records, says “Alela Diane is a real American Songwriter. Both flinty and beautiful. She draws from a tradition that might include Sandy Denny and Karen Dalton and she suffers not a jot in comparison”
