Rough Trade awarded best two albums of the decade by the NME 17/11/09 in news
We’re thrilled to announce that in NME’s Best Album Of The Decade poll, The Strokes‘ eponymous debut album “Is This It?” was voted number 1 and The Libertines‘ raucous debut album “Up The Bracket” followed at number 2!
“It only proves that we will have to work that bit harder to make the next decade even better. It is great to see these two records acknowledged in this way.
Without them the decade would just not have been so thrilling. It is not easy for a band to make an impact and actually matter, these two did it with imperious ease.
One with clean precise lines and one with an unholy mess. We are proud of both of them.” Said Rough Trade Founder and Co-Owner; Geoff Travis
Elsewhere Arcade Fire’s dark yet life affirming “Funeral” album lies at number 7.
You can listen to a track taken from each album on WE7:

That’s not what eponymous means. If their first album had been eponymous, it would have been called “The Strokes”.
But congratulations to Rough Trade anyway, I believe this is higly deserved.
